US Election 1868 Map

Our map of the 1868 US election shows a country still stitched together after the Civil War. Many Southern states had only recently rejoined the Union. Newly enfranchised Black voters helped shape the results. Ulysses S. Grant’s victory wasn’t just about his reputation as a war hero. It symbolized the North’s commitment to rebuilding the nation on new terms.
