Alaska Purchase 1867 Map

The US bought Alaska from Russia for about $7 million. This added massive northern territory way up by the Arctic. Alaska sits completely separated from the rest of the states with Canada in between. A lot of people thought buying this frozen land was not a great idea at the time. But it turned out to have tons of valuable resources.
