The 1984 Presidential Election was one of the most lopsided victories in American history. Incumbent Ronald Reagan (Republican) won a second term by defeating Walter Mondale (Democrat) in a near-total sweep of the electoral map.

Election Summary
- The Winner: Ronald Reagan (Republican) won re-election with 525 electoral votes, the highest raw total ever received by a candidate.
- The Challenger: Walter Mondale (Democrat) secured only 13 electoral votes, carrying only his home state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia.
- Popular Vote: Reagan won 58.8% (54,455,075 votes) while Mondale received 40.6% (37,577,185 votes).
- Reagan’s Dominance: Reagan won 49 of 50 states and carried virtually every demographic group except African Americans.
- Age Issue: At 73, Reagan was the oldest person to be nominated by a major party for president at that time.
