- The Winner: Ronald Reagan (Republican) won in a landslide with 489 electoral votes (90.9%).
- The Incumbent: Jimmy Carter (Democrat) finished with 49 electoral votes (9.1%), winning only six states and the District of Columbia.
- Popular Vote: Reagan secured 50.7% (43,904,153) of the vote, while Carter received 41% (35,483,883).
- Third Party Impact: John B. Anderson (Independent) performed strongly for a third-party candidate, receiving 6.7% (5,720,060) of the popular vote, though he won no electoral votes.
